First Visit to The Church?

At the United Methodist Church of Floral Park, our theme of “Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors”, means that we're always excited to welcome new visitors. We hope you'll join us for a service, and we want to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Here's what you can expect when you come to 10:00 a.m. service.

Our church is located at 35 Verbena Avenue, and parking for Sunday services is available next to the church. Our gate attendant will open the gate for you from 9:15-10am. The side entrance door is conveniently located by the parking lot and if you need assistance with stairs, that entrance also has a stair lift chair. If you’d rather enter through the beautiful front of our sanctuary entrance, you can walk around and enter through the main doors. From the first Sunday in July until Labor Day weekend, Sunday services are held in our air conditioned Chapel at the back of the church. There are signs to guide you, or any of our church members will be glad to show you the way.

Please don't worry about what you'll wear to church, for we believe people should come to God as they are. Once you walk in the doors, you'll see that the congregation has all types of people in all kinds of dress. While some in the church wear dresses and ties, others are reminded that Jesus wore sandals. Shorts are as welcome as suits, and you'll see both.

Our greeters are usually stationed at the main sanctuary doors and they’ll hand you your program and assist you with any questions that you may have. If you’re visiting our church for the first time, be sure to put your name and mailing address in our friendship book located in the back of each pew so our Pastor can send you a letter of welcome.

Children are welcomed into the church service and are escorted back to their Sunday School classes by the teachers around 10:15, prior to the Bible Readings. This gives them a chance to see a little of what happens in the “grown-up” church. Our littlest ones are escorted to the nursery and school-age children are in the big classroom across the hall. Parents are welcome to escort their children back if needed and children are picked up from their rooms immediately following the service.

Be sure to stick around after the service and join us for coffee in our parlor. You'll have a chance to meet our pastor and many other people in the church, and there are always some little treats provided by one of our church members. We'd also love to get to know you so you're a familiar face the next time we see you at UMC Floral Park.
